The Central government is going to issue notification declaring the 12.15 hectares of area near Gamanagatti between Hubli and Dharwad as special economic zone (SEZ) for IT and IT enabled Services (ITeS). Union minister for commerce and industry Anand Sharma has informed Dharwad MP Prahlad Joshi that the Centre was actively considering the proposal sent by the state government and the notification would be issued soon.

The offer is awaiting with the main govt since last two decades. The Panel of Acceptance (SEZ) of the Secretary of state for Market in its 46th conference presented at New Delhi on May 31, 2011 has given its approval for establishing up the Unique Financial Location at Gamanagatti. However the offer has not been removed by the Secretary of state for Market and Market as it is looking forward to approval from House Ministry.

MP Prahlad Joshi had asked for forgiveness with the Partnership govt to obvious the offer without exposing it to analysis and approval by the House Ministry as the Karnataka govt was creating the IT SEZ through Karnataka Business Place Progression Panel (KIADB).
